Redpoint Competition:
A redpoint format competition allows multiple attempts on a route and
the opportunity to watch other competitors climb on the route prior to
an attempt. Points are scored only for completion of the route. Redpoint
format competitions are composed of any combination of bouldering, top
rope, or lead problems. The organizer will prepare at least 30, but not
more than 50 problems for climbers to attempt. Each problem will be worth
a specific number of points based on that problem's anticipated difficulty.
On-Sight Competition:
In an on-sight problem, the climber will not see any other person climb
the route prior to attempting it him/herself. To accomplish that goal,
climbers usually enter an isolation area prior to the event and are brought
out one at a time. There may be an opportunity to preview the route (but
not others attempts) in advance of the attempt. Climbers are scored
based on the highest hold reached.
